Spaced teeth, scientifically called diastema are gaps between teeth, which may be localised to a particular area or maybe generalised through all teeth. They could be hereditary or due to childhood habits such as tongue thrusting, pencil chewing and so on. Apart from the esthetic disadvantage, spaced teeth cause a deformity in speech due to improper passage of air from the spaces between the teeth. Their correction improves both results significantly.
